The bitcoin price today stood at $78,303.99 at 05:52 UTC on Monday 2 November, the close of that minute’s candle on Coinbase, after a rise of about 0.7% in the single hour from 23:00 UTC on Sunday. The night’s high was $78,878.01 on Binance at 03:47 UTC and $78,762.30 on Coinbase a minute later, both short of $79,000.
That gain has not yet met Wall Street. The Nasdaq 100 closed Friday 3.46% lower and US stocks reopen at 14:30 UTC. From there the day runs through the ISM manufacturing survey at 15:00 UTC, the first ETF session since Friday’s exit, a possible weekly filing from Strategy and Binance’s reserve report, with the US midterm elections on Tuesday.
Yesterday’s look-ahead set out what this week can and cannot settle, with Coinbase at $77,888.44 at 17:57 UTC. This report has the night’s numbers and today’s hours.
Bitcoin price today: the step up came at 23:00 UTC, the high at 03:47 UTC
Coinbase’s hourly candles show where the move happened. Bitcoin closed the 22:00 UTC hour at $77,704.09, after a low of $77,499 that was also the bottom of the past 24 hours at our 05:54 UTC read. The next hour took it to $78,230.55. That hour runs from 08:00 to 09:00 in Tokyo, so the buying came before the Tokyo Stock Exchange opened at 09:00 local time, or 00:00 UTC.
| Coinbase BTC-USD, hour starting (UTC) | Move in the hour |
|---|---|
| 22:00, 1 Nov | Low $77,499, close $77,704.09 |
| 23:00, 1 Nov | Low $77,685.54, high $78,298.82, close $78,230.55 |
| 00:00, 2 Nov | Range $77,906 to $78,397 |
| 01:00, 2 Nov | High $78,517.16 |
| 03:00, 2 Nov | Range $78,312.89 to $78,762.30, the 24-hour high at 03:48 |
| 04:00, 2 Nov | Close $78,287.80 |
The whole 24-hour range on Coinbase is about 1.6%, on volume of 3,949.9 BTC at 05:54 UTC. CoinDesk calls this a third straight day of gains, and the daily candles, which reset at 00:00 UTC, show how thin that count is. On Binance, Saturday added 0.28%, Sunday 0.99%, and Monday’s candle stood at $78,408 at 05:53 UTC against an open of $78,354.01. On Coinbase it was $78,303.99 at 05:52 UTC against an open of $78,232.49. Today’s candle is still open on both, so the third day is not settled, and it could close red. Counted from Friday’s Binance close of $77,368.77, the rise so far is about 1.3%.
The two highs differ by about $116 because each venue has its own order book. CoinDesk, in a piece published at 04:42 UTC, put bitcoin around $78,600, up about 1%.
The other large coins were mixed. Ether stood at $2,290.78 on Coinbase at 05:52 UTC, up from a 24-hour open of $2,266.92. Coindaro’s market snapshot around 05:24 UTC had SOL near $94.7, down about 0.9% over 24 hours, XRP flat at $1.25 and BNB near $710, up about 0.6%. Zcash moved most, at $1,273.60 on Coinbase at 05:52 UTC against a 24-hour open of $1,248.10, and CoinDesk had it up about 3% at the time of its piece. We found no report that explains its move. The same snapshot showed bitcoin dominance at 60.0% and the Fear & Greed index at 37, in Fear.
Wall Street’s Friday drop is the bar, and futures are only part way back
Friday’s close is the level today’s open will be measured against. The S&P 500 closed at 7,580.07, down 1.82%. The Nasdaq 100 lost 3.46% to 28,384.85, which CoinDesk calls its worst day since June. The Philadelphia Semiconductor Index dropped 7.20% to 10,688.80. Percentages are our arithmetic from Yahoo Finance’s closes.
Index futures rebounded overnight without closing that hole. At 05:43 UTC the Nasdaq 100 future stood at 28,827.25, up 1.03% from Friday’s settlement, and the S&P 500 future at 7,656, up 0.55%. Thursday’s Nasdaq 100 close was 29,402.51, about 2% above where the future now trades, though the cash index and the future are not the same price.
| Asset (Yahoo Finance, delayed intraday) | Read at (UTC) | Level | Change from Friday |
|---|---|---|---|
| Kospi | 05:33 | 5,899.08 | +2.94% |
| Hang Seng | 05:38 | 23,447.93 | +0.66% |
| Shanghai Composite | 05:38 | 3,629.52 | +0.85% |
| Nikkei 225 | 05:38 | 63,244.54 | -0.07% |
| Nasdaq 100 future | 05:43 | 28,827.25 | +1.03% |
| S&P 500 future | 05:43 | 7,656 | +0.55% |
| Gold | 05:43 | 3,927.10 | +0.72% |
| Brent | 05:43 | about $110 | see below |
Asian markets were still trading at that read, so these are not closes. Seoul gained far more than the rest, while Tokyo barely moved. The 10-year US Treasury yield ended Friday at 4.93%, against 4.99% on Thursday. The dollar index read 101.84 at 05:43 UTC and USD/JPY 157.80 at 05:53 UTC.
Oil is the other overnight move. Brent traded at $109.55 at 05:43 UTC. CoinDesk puts the fall at 3%, while Yahoo’s front-month series shows a larger drop from Friday’s settlement of $117.64, so we give the level and not a percentage. CoinDesk ties the fall to a report that President Trump wants to give Iran diplomacy more time before possibly resuming strikes after Tuesday’s vote. CoinDesk is our only source for that report and we could not find the original, so treat it as unconfirmed.
Gold rebounded. Yahoo’s series showed 3,927.10, and CoinDesk reported a rise of about 1% to roughly $3,910, after what it describes as gold’s lowest close in more than a year on Friday. Quoted by CoinDesk, Jeff Mei, chief operating officer of the exchange BTSE, said “macro pressures will continue to keep interest rates high”, which he expects to weigh on crypto liquidity.

Today’s hours in UTC, then the week to Friday
Most macro times below come from the Trading Economics calendar, read in UTC at about 05:50 UTC. US Eastern time has been UTC-5 since the clocks changed on Sunday, so New York’s 09:30 open is 14:30 UTC and a 10:00 release is 15:00 UTC. ISM’s own calendar sits behind a login, so its slot rests on Trading Economics and on ISM’s usual 10:00 in New York.

Tokenomist counts $1.13 billion of cliff unlocks over the next seven days, on bases its homepage does not label.

Leverage did not push this rise
Open interest on Binance’s BTCUSDT perpetual fell while the price rose. It stood at 95,301 BTC at 05:40 UTC, down about 2.4% from Sunday’s 12:00 UTC peak of 97,606 BTC, and 1.7% below the same hour a day earlier. Open interest counts open contracts, so a fall alongside a rising price can mean shorts closing or longs taking profit. The data does not say which, and a 2.4% move is not a flush.
Funding stayed at the baseline. Binance settled at +0.0100% at each of the last four eight-hour marks, through 00:00 UTC today. At about 05:52 UTC, OKX’s estimate for the current period was about +0.005% and Bybit showed +0.0025%. Longs are paying little, which fits a rise that did not need borrowed money.
Dated futures tell the same story. On Deribit at 05:44 UTC the 27 November contract traded at $78,570.64 and the 29 January 2027 contract at $79,332.29, against a perpetual of $78,284.98. That works out at about 5.3% to 5.5% annualised, by our calculation.
The crowd of accounts leaned a little less long. Binance’s global long/short account ratio read 2.08 at 05:00 UTC, or 67.6% of accounts long, down from 2.54 and 71.8% in Sunday morning’s read. It counts accounts, not position size, so it says nothing about how much money sits on each side.
ETFs: the only new facts about Friday are the scale
The $643 million exit is in our Saturday report on ETF flows. The Block, citing SoSoValue, now adds that it was the largest single-day outflow since 25 June and that spot bitcoin ETFs hold $98.14 billion in total net assets. Rick Maeda of Laevitas told The Block it was “a de-risking day, and not capitulation or a loss in institutional confidence”.
No Monday data exists yet. Funds start trading at 14:30 UTC and the first tables normally appear in the evening, UTC.
Binance reserve proof: Tuesday in its own words, Monday in two outlets
We could not confirm any publication at 05:55 UTC. Binance’s proof-of-reserves page showed no audit time or figures at that read. The dates still differ by source, as our running file on the hack records. Binance’s Update #2 and its chief executive Richard Teng promised results by Monday 2 November. Binance’s Update #3, published on Saturday, then estimated the full proof “by Tuesday, 2026-11-03 (UTC)”. Bitcoin.com News and The Block give Monday for an updated reserves report. Binance has given no timetable for phase two of withdrawals.
RUNE and AKE led the losers, and only one has a known backdrop
Coindaro’s snapshot around 05:24 UTC had AKE down more than 30%, RUNE down about 20%, AWE about 13% and CARDS about 12% over 24 hours. RUNE is THORChain’s token, and the network’s paused swaps are covered separately. We found no announcement behind the other three. NPC, up about 6%, led the gainers, ahead of TRUMP at about 5%, again without a stated cause.
What we could not read this morning
We have no liquidation total for the night, because CoinGlass did not load. Farside and SoSoValue refused our requests, so nothing here adds to Friday’s ETF figures beyond The Block’s report. We could not open CoinShares’ weekly flow report, which usually lands on Monday morning. We could not read Asian government bond yields, and no wire report on today’s Asian equity session turned up, so the moves above come with no stated cause. We also do not know why Zcash rose or where the Iran report began.
The first numbers that can settle any of this arrive at 15:00 UTC with the ISM survey, and the ETF tables follow this evening.
