Crypto risk warning
Read the Coindaro crypto risk warning before you invest: volatility, loss of capital, scams, rules that differ by country, taxes and how our data works.
This crypto risk warning applies to everything published on Coindaro. Crypto-assets are high-risk products. Please read it before acting on any information found on the site.
Volatility and loss of capital
Crypto prices can rise or fall sharply within hours, and many tokens have lost almost all their value. You can lose all the money you invest. Only use money you can afford to lose, and be especially careful with leverage, derivatives and lending products, which can multiply losses.
Scams and security
Fraud is common in crypto: fake exchanges and wallets, phishing sites, impersonation of well-known people, fake airdrop claim pages and “guaranteed return” schemes. No legitimate service will ever ask for your seed phrase. Transactions on a blockchain are usually irreversible, and funds held on a platform that fails or is hacked may not be recovered. Our guide to avoiding crypto scams explains the warning signs.
Rules differ from country to country
In the European Union, the Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCA, Regulation (EU) 2023/1114) requires crypto-asset service providers to be authorised; the transitional periods ended on 1 July 2026 at the latest. You can check a provider in the ESMA register and learn more in our MiCA explainer. MiCA does not protect you against falling prices, and crypto-assets are not covered by deposit guarantee schemes.
In the United States, rules come from several federal agencies (including the SEC, the CFTC and FinCEN) and from state regulators, and they continue to change; stablecoins have their own federal framework since the GENIUS Act was signed in July 2025. A product available in one country may be restricted or illegal in another: check that a service is authorised where you live.
Taxes
Selling, swapping or spending crypto-assets is a taxable event in many countries, and some income such as staking rewards may be taxed too. Rules differ by country and change often. Keep records of your transactions and ask a tax professional if in doubt.
No investment advice
Coindaro publishes information, not investment, financial, legal or tax advice. Nothing on the site is a recommendation to buy, sell or hold any asset, and scores in our reviews are not an invitation to use a product. Our standards are described in our editorial policy.
