Our review
This Bitget review looks at one of the largest offshore crypto exchanges, known for derivatives and copy trading, as of October 2026. Bitget was founded in 2018, registered in the Seychelles in December 2022 and has been run by CEO Gracy Chen since 2024. It offers spot and futures trading, copy trading, bots, savings products, tokenized stocks and a separate self-custody app, Bitget Wallet.
Two recent facts dominate any assessment. First, Bitget has no MiCA authorisation and no licence in the United States. Second, on 24 September 2026 it suffered one of the largest exchange hacks of the year, with losses estimated at $387.5 million, covered by its Protection Fund. Low fees and a broad product range do not cancel out those risks.
Regulation and licences
Bitget operates its global platform from outside the main regulated markets. Its terms of use, updated on 15 September 2026, list the United States, Canada, Japan, Singapore, Hong Kong, France, Germany and Austria among prohibited countries.
In the European Union, the MiCA regulation has required a CASP authorisation since the end of the transition period on 1 July 2026. Bitget’s European entity, Bitget EU, announced on 17 June 2026 that it had applied for authorisation with Austria’s Financial Market Authority, and stressed that this was not an approval. When we checked the ESMA register in October 2026, no Bitget entity was listed. Earlier national VASP registrations in countries such as Lithuania and Poland do not replace a MiCA licence.
Bitget’s regulatory history includes several setbacks. France’s AMF put bitget.com on its blacklist; Bitget stopped accepting French sign-ups on 16 January 2026 and ended services for French residents on 31 March 2026, after which the AMF removed it from the list. Japan’s FSA warned Bitget in 2023 and 2024 for operating without registration, and its apps were removed from the Japanese App Store in February 2025. In the UK, Bitget paused new sign-ups in 2024, then relaunched in November 2024 with promotions approved by Archax, an FCA-registered firm.
Bitget fees
Fees are Bitget’s strongest argument. According to its Trading Fees FAQ (20 August 2026), the standard rates are:
| Market | Maker | Taker |
|---|---|---|
| Spot (standard tier) | 0.10% | 0.10% |
| Spot, fees paid in BGB | discounted | discounted |
| USDT-M futures (standard tier) | 0.02% | 0.06% |
| Futures funding | every 8 hours | every 8 hours |
VIP tiers lower these rates further, and the BGB discount can be combined with them. A $1,000 spot purchase therefore costs about $1 in trading fees. Remember that leverage multiplies both fees and risk: on a 10x futures position, the taker fee applies to the full position size, not to your margin.
Security record and the September 2026 hack
At about 18:31 UTC on 24 September 2026, Bitget detected unauthorized transfers from parts of its hot and warm wallet infrastructure. CEO Gracy Chen told CoinDesk that attackers used a compromised back-end system to spoof transfer data and trigger the exchange’s own withdrawal process; private keys and cold wallets were not compromised. Bitget said the attackers exploited a vulnerability in a third-party security product. The loss estimate rose from $351.6 million to $387.5 million after on-chain tracing, and Chen attributed the attack to North Korean hackers.
Bitget paused withdrawals while trading continued, said user balances were unaffected and that its Protection Fund, then above $464 million, would absorb the loss. Withdrawals resumed in phases over the following days, starting with bitcoin, ether and USDT, with the remaining assets, fiat and P2P scheduled for 2 October, as reported by BleepingComputer. On 30 September, Bitget said the fund had been rebuilt to about $309 million. Mandiant and SlowMist are assisting with the investigation. Earlier, in 2022, BitKeep, the wallet Bitget later bought and renamed Bitget Wallet, suffered two exploits worth about $1 million and $8 million.
Bitget publishes a monthly proof of reserves based on a Merkle tree. That is useful, but it does not prove the absence of liabilities and it did not prevent the 2026 breach. Enable two-factor authentication, use withdrawal whitelists and avoid keeping long-term savings on any exchange.
Products
- Spot: more than 500 crypto assets as of October 2026, plus thousands of tokenized stock tickers;
- Futures and margin: USDT-margined and coin-margined perpetual contracts with high leverage, where permitted;
- Copy trading and bots: the feature Bitget is best known for, letting you mirror other traders’ positions;
- Earn: savings and staking products on selected coins;
- Bitget Wallet: a separate self-custody wallet app, which is not covered by the exchange’s custody.
Copy trading deserves caution: past results of a lead trader say little about future returns, and leveraged copied positions can be liquidated quickly.
Deposits and withdrawals
Most users fund Bitget with crypto transfers. You can also buy crypto with fiat through Quick Buy where available and use the peer-to-peer (P2P) marketplace, where you pay another user directly; P2P exposes you to counterparty and fraud risks, so only trade with verified merchants and inside the platform’s escrow. The September 2026 withdrawal pause is a reminder that access to funds on a custodial platform can be suspended.
Who Bitget suits
Bitget suits experienced traders outside the US and outside the countries it excludes who want low fees, a wide altcoin choice, futures and copy trading, and who accept the risk of an unregulated venue that was hacked in 2026. It does not suit beginners, savers looking for strong investor protection, or residents of the EU who want a MiCA-authorised provider.
How Bitget compares
Bitget competes most directly with Bybit and OKX on derivatives, fees and copy trading. Its spot and futures fees are in line with theirs, but it lacks the MiCA authorisation that some rivals have obtained, and its 2026 hack weighs on its security score. Our guide on how to choose a crypto exchange shows how to compare regulation, fees and security side by side.
Our verdict and rating method
We rate Bitget 6.4/10. Fees score 9/10 and the app 8/10, with a rich, fast interface. Deposits (7/10) rely mostly on crypto and P2P. Support scores 6.5/10. Security gets 5.5/10: the Protection Fund covered users after the September 2026 hack, but a $387.5 million breach, no MiCA or US licence and a list of regulatory warnings justify a cautious rating.

Frequently asked questions
Is Bitget safe after the 2026 hack?
In September 2026, attackers stole about $387.5 million from Bitget's hot and warm wallets. Bitget says private keys and cold wallets were not compromised, user balances were unaffected and its Protection Fund covered the loss. Withdrawals resumed in phases from late September 2026.
Does Bitget have a MiCA licence?
No. Bitget EU applied for MiCA authorisation with Austria's Financial Market Authority, announced on 17 June 2026, but the application had not been approved and no Bitget entity appeared in the ESMA register when we checked in October 2026. Its terms exclude France, Germany and Austria.
Can I use Bitget in the United States?
No. Bitget's terms of use, updated on 15 September 2026, list the United States, including its territories, among prohibited countries. US residents should use exchanges licensed at state and federal level, such as Coinbase, Kraken or Gemini.
What are Bitget's trading fees?
As of October 2026, Bitget charges 0.1% maker and taker on spot trades at the standard tier, and 0.02% maker and 0.06% taker on futures. Paying fees in BGB and reaching VIP tiers lowers these rates. Futures positions also pay or receive funding every 8 hours.
What is the Bitget Protection Fund?
It is a reserve Bitget created in 2022 and holds in public wallets to cover users in case of a major incident. It held more than $464 million before the September 2026 hack, was used to absorb the loss, and was rebuilt to about $309 million by 30 September 2026.
